Empowering You to Take Control of Your Health
The Chiropractic Stroke Awareness Group (CSAG) is a dedicated organization that aims to raise public awareness about the risks of stroke and death associated with chiropractic cervical spinal adjustments. We are committed to helping those who have been injured due to such procedures and are passionate about preventing future needless suffering. Our primary focus is on individuals aged between 25 - 45 years old, who are most at risk.
The Beginning of CSAG
CSAG was founded by Linda Solsbury, who became confined to a hospital due to the medical care she required after suffering a stroke following a cervical spinal manipulation. Despite her physical limitations, she pursued legislation requiring chiropractors to carry malpractice insurance. Linda's determination aimed to prevent others from facing a lifetime of struggles like the one she experienced on that tragic day in October 1985. During her 20+ years of hospital confinement, she corresponded with countless others who were also severely injured due to a cervical spinal adjustment performed by a chiropractor.
Britt Harwe met Linda Solsbury in late 2004. They were brought together by another woman who had experienced a stroke as a result of a chiropractic adjustment. A strong bond formed between them because of their shared experiences, inspiring them to create an awareness campaign about the cause of stroke and reach out to others who had been injured. They wanted others to know they were not alone.
How CSAG Can Help
CSAG is here to assist those who have experienced a chiropractic stroke by:
1. Letting them know they are not alone in their struggles
2. Offering a platform for survivors to share their stories and find emotional support
3. Preventing emotional isolation and depression
4. Encouraging survivors to make positive differences in their lives and the lives of others
By connecting with others, survivors can facilitate a more optimistic life and reclaim their voices.
Understanding the Risk of Stroke after Chiropractic Manipulation
At CSAG, we believe it's essential to be aware of the risk of stroke associated with chiropractic cervical spinal adjustments. Symptoms of stroke, such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, weakness, slurred speech, sudden numbness on one side of the body, vision problems, and severe headaches, may develop immediately or take days or weeks to appear. Immediate medical attention is crucial upon experiencing these symptoms, as it can reduce the extent of damage caused by a stroke.
Unfortunately, when patients present with initial stroke symptoms after a chiropractic manipulation, they are often dismissed by chiropractors who assure them that the symptoms are only "reactions" to the adjustment or a result of "releasing toxins" due to the manipulation. CSAG works tirelessly to raise awareness among healthcare providers, especially chiropractors, to recognize the first symptoms and the critical need for immediate medical treatment.
