The History of Chiropractic Care

The term "chiropractic" is derived from the Greek words "cheir" (hand) and "praktos" (done), meaning "done by hand." Chiropractic care was developed in 1895 by Daniel David Palmer, who performed a spinal adjustment on a partially deaf janitor, Harvey Lillard. After the adjustment, Lillard reported that his hearing had improved. Inspired by this success, D.D. Palmer opened the first chiropractic school two years later. Since then, chiropractic professionals have used spinal adjustments to help people prevent and cope with a wide variety of physical challenges.
